Modified erythrocytes in indirect haemagglutination with Neisseria gonorrhoeae antigen.

چکیده
Antigen prepared from gonococci by extraction with alkali has the ability to sensitize erythrocytes for agglutination or indirect haemolysis by corresponding antisera (Chanarin, 1954; Maeland, 1966; Thomas and Mennie, 1950). These indirect techniques have been used for the study of endotoxin preparations from gonococci. Endotoxins, however, require treatment with alkali before sensitization, except when the extraction procedure includes exposure of the antigen to alkali (Maeland, 1968, 1969b). Untreated erythrocytes were always used for sensitization with the alkali-treated antigens. Attempts have been made to use the indirect haemagglutination technique for detection of antibodies to gonococci, omitting alkali-treatment of the antigens. This report presents results which show that antigen present in saline extracts from gonococci has the ability to sensitize tanned or formalinized erythrocytes. Treatment of the antigen with alkali could then be omitted.

Mercaptoethanol-resistant human serum antibodies reacting with endotoxin from Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
Sera from fifty patients with gonorrhoea, thirty with non-specific urethritis, and eighty blood donors were treated with mercaptoethanol (ME) and examined by the indirect haemagglutination test for antibodies against endotoxin from gonococci. Erythrocytes sensitized with determinant a of endotoxin from Strains 8551, V, and VII, or determinant b from Strain V were used. The percentage of sera ac...

In a comparison of the reverse passive haemagglutination test (RPHA) with the direct immunofluorescent and rapid carbohydrate utilisation tests for the identification of Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolated from clinical specimens, 315 isolates of oxidase-positive Gram-negative diplococci were tested as pure 24-hour-old subcultures and samples from 108 similar organisms were taken directly from prima...

Paired sera from 60 consecutive patients with acute salpingitis, confirmed by laparoscopy, were examined for serum antibodies to Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma hominis, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. By a microimmunofluorescence (MIF) test IgM or IgG antibodies to C trachomatis or both were present in sera from 80% of the patients' by indirect haemagglutination (IHA) tests antibodies to M homini...
متن کاملA study on the frequency of vaginal species of Mycoplasma genitalium, Gardnerella vaginalis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae among pregnant women by PCR technique
Bacterial vaginosis or non-specific vaginitis describes the disease caused by a change in the normal Flora of the vagina, which leads to the elimination of Lactobacilli, generating hydrogen peroxide and excess growth of bacteria, particularly anaerobic bacteria. This disease is the most prevalent infection of the female genital tract, and the rate of frequency of anaerobic bacteria, specificall...
متن کاملFluorescent antibody test for the serological diagnosis of gonorrhea.
An indirect fluorescent antibody technique has been developed for the serological diagnosis of gonorrhea. The selected strain(s) of Neisseria gonorrhoeae possesses a heat-labile surface antigen (L-antigen). Sera are diluted 1:10, and an aliquot is hear inactivated at 59 C for 30 min. The treated and untreated aliquots are then examined for human immunoglobulin G anti-L-antigen. In a prelimiary ...
